Pleasant, Michigan 8/2002 – 12/2003 Graduate Assistant Taught the BIS 221 (Computers in Business I) lab practicum, which developed students’ understanding of spreadsheet and database concepts using the MS Office XP Suite as the primary learning tool. My responsibilities as coordinator included designing the assignments and exams and distributing them to the other graduate assistants and setting teaching methods, as well as making sure assignments were handed back in a timely fashion and each instructor was fair in grading. Dendritic Nanotechnologies (DNT), Mt. Pleasant, Michigan 10/2002 –12/2002 Internet Presence Maximization Consultant – MBA Project My duties included determining key words to be placed on DNT’s web site to increase relevant hits from potential customers and partners, as well as designing and administering the survey via phone. The duties extended to include viewing competitors’ and customers’ web sites to determine how DNT should place itself within the market. The position also required learning enough about bio technology and dendrimers to be able to sufficiently administer the survey. A solution involving keywords from three sources and creative marketing with the help of Google became the optimal solution. Autonomix, Inc., Bainbridge Island, Washington 6/2003 – 8/2003 Developer – Summer Internship My duties included assisting in the development of ClubHub, The Internet Communication Portal for Service Clubs (www.clubhub.net). I developed functionality for tracking and displaying events in a calendar, displaying images in a gallery or singly, as well as displaying and editing links using ASP.Net in Visual Studio .Net. I took the lead role in testing and debugging. Along with development of the portal itself, I also wrote and tested stored procedures to update a SQL Server 7 database and wrote the documentation for the administrative interface. Besides ClubHub, I also added to discussions regarding marketing and direction of the firm. Boxlight Corporation, Poulsbo, Washington 8/2000 – 6/2001 Web/Database Technician – Temporary Position My main duties included maintaining several e-commerce web sites and the underlying database for Boxlight and its subsidiaries. To reduce server crashes caused by uploading the database using FTP during high traffic times, I developed an online interface for the main product database in ASP 2.0. Maintaining the site also included coordinating with several departments when a new projector was being introduced to ensure proper pricing and correct image display. I also developed several ad hoc pages for promotions and non-current inventory. Additional duties I accepted while at Boxlight included validating and normalizing customer lead data in an Excel spreadsheet for entry into an Onyx database. For this task, I wrote several ad hoc macros in VBA to automate the more tedious portions particular to each file. Another duty I took on was normalizing the data in the main web database (Access 97) for entry into the new web database (SQL Server 7). I developed an email survey using MS Outlook to gather sales data each month from the salespeople, then automated the conversion to an Excel report with a macro in VBA. I also documented the survey to facilitate training other employees to modify it. The sales survey is still in use today. MAST International, Port Orchard, Washington 10/2000 – 12/2000 Database Administrator My main duties as DBA were to bring the web site and underlying database online fully functional. This included developing all the ASP pages for the site and converting the database from Access 97 to Access 2000. My duties grew to include streamlining business processes by electronically tracking task lists using Outlook and restructuring the customer database to increase security. My main duties were nearly half completed when the company folded. Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan 5/2000 – 7/2000 Production Specialist – Temporary Position My main duties included reviewing and editing course page content, as well as converting the content provided by the instructors to PageMaker and Word for upload to the web sites. My duties grew to include redesigning parts of the main student database interface. I also fully documented and implemented each of the design changes. I wrote VBA macros in Excel to manipulate student survey data downloaded from the web which is still in use today. I also wrote VBA macros to automate mail merge updates.
